Embedded Planet Announces New PowerPC Credit Card Sized Module
Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) July 24, 2007 -- Embedded Planet, a leading supplier of single board computers and embedded systems training and services, today announced immediate availability of a new credit card sized PowerPC single board computer and a companion I/O module targeted at space constrained control applications. The board is powered by a 440EPx processor from AMCC and includes a companion board with extensive I/O options given you a range of control over external devices. The board stack measures 3.5" x 2.2" x 1.5" and includes open source firmware and a complete Linux BSP.

The EP440xS and its companion I/O board create a compact, cost-effective, and powerful platform for developing high performance networked control platforms. The board stack includes 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 256MB of DDR II RAM with ECC support, 128MB of NOR flash and 512MB of NAND flash, 13 RS-232 serial ports, and USB 2.0 host and device ports. For software support, Embedded Planet supplies a U-Boot bootloader and a complete Linux board support package with other embedded operating systems available upon request.

"The integrated I/O and memory interfaces on the 440EPx processor allow system designers to create very small, power efficient, yet feature rich designs."
At the heart of the EP440xS is the AMCC PowerPC 440EPx. The 440EPx is a highly integrated SoC that includes a PowerPC core at speeds up to 667MHz, a floating point unit, NAND flash controller, DDR2 RAM controller, USB 2.0 host and device controllers, and dual Gigabit Ethernet MACs. The high level of integration increases performance, while lowering system power consumption and cost.
